A partnership between Missouri Humanities Council and the Foundation,
READ from the START (RFTS) educates at-risk parents about the importance
of reading to young children starting at birth. Research shows that
lifetime success rates are increased dramatically when children
are exposed to reading at an early age. RFTS trained facilitators
meet with parents to model reading techniques and inspire them to
enjoy a lifelong love of reading. The Foundation gives each family
a set of seven children's books to take home. Since 1998, the Foundation
has sponsored 83 programs with more than 1,200 parents and caregivers
participating from 24 counties.
