The role of Heartland Foundation
evolved from raising money to support hospital projects to a large
umbrella organization to counter economic and population decline,
falling educational levels and citizen apathy. We have grown to
include extensive programs for youth and healthy communities
as well as allocating resources.
Our efforts are focused on creating better health for the 30-county
region we serve, pioneering community revitalization efforts to
improve health and quality of life for those who live here, and
empowering people and communities to effect positive change for
their own lives and their communities. Our work is possible only
with the support of many volunteers, partners, and investors, locally
and nationally.
Healthy and prosperous communities do not just happen. It requires
citizen participation and empowerment. It's also important to recognize
that people of all ages and diverse backgrounds have the potential
to make a difference. The success of our programs demonstrate that
personal responsibility and citizen engagement leads to economic
vitality, improving quality of life, better health, and growing
a community's capacity to thrive.
For the Foundation, it's clear. Each of us represents possibility.
